- ReportReported for: Cert verification does not work; unrecognized-grader slabs sold as graded value
GRADER-RISK: CCG / Collectible Card Grading, a budget bulk grader ($5/card). Structural buyer-harm documented entirely from their own public pages and API. Not a fraud allegation.
GRADER-RISK entry. Findings drawn entirely from CCG public pages and API; conclusive on their face.
- Note
Published the same day it was reported, rather than the usual 3 to 5 days, because the findings were conclusive.
What we checked (10 sources)
- CardConduct evidence report (PDF)
Full technical evidence report behind every point below, with sources. Personally identifying information removed.
- CCG "Serial Number Lookup" page
The cert-verification form field submits to an empty action with no handler and no API, so entering a serial does nothing. A real CCG cert number (e.g. 940859235) returns "Nothing Found".
- CCG public database (sitemap / REST API)
The only database behind the lookup holds exactly three records, all leftover 2016 WordPress theme-demo names (Colin Kaepernick, Thomas Edward Brady Jr, Finn Rosetta). Zero real cert records exist, which is why real certs cannot be verified.
- CCG About page vs public domain records
CCG claims "over 36 years, since 1988." The domain was registered in 2020 and CCG's own footer reads Copyright 2012-2024. Third-party card grading barely existed in 1988 (PSA was founded 1991).
- CCG grading-scale page
No grading methodology, process, equipment, or criteria is published, only a vague 1-10 scale. An on-camera slab reads overall 10 with a centering subgrade of 9.5, while the scale defines a 10 as perfect centering.
- CCG grading-scale page
CCG grades reprints and homemade "ACEO custom" cards in the same black slab and the same GEM MINT 10 treatment as licensed originals, so a buyer cannot tell them apart.
- CCG "Buy Our Cards" page
CCG sells its own graded cards on eBay and Amazon and links a specific eBay listing as "Card of the week." The same operation grades the cards and sells them, which removes the third-party independence grading is supposed to provide.
- Public sold comps (130point) vs CCG asking prices
CCG-graded cards are listed at 5x to 115x real market. Two are impossible for a grade that carries no premium: a CCG 9.5 Ripken at $2,450 exceeds a real PSA 10 at about $1,065, and a CCG 10 Durant at $145 exceeds a real PSA 10 at about $99.
- CCG site technology (WordPress REST API)
The site is a repurposed sports-team WordPress theme on shared managed hosting. Across its 1100-plus API routes there is no custom grading or cert-verification software at all; every route belongs to an off-the-shelf plugin.
- Name and trade dress
CCG on a small black label reads as CGC on a phone; "GEM MINT 10" is PSA terminology; a black label with four subgrades is Beckett trade dress. The label borrows recognition from three established graders and belongs to none.

If this entry is wrong, or it was an honest mistake, say so and it gets re-checked. An explained mistake takes a handle off the record. That grace is one time.
